The Art of Memoir: Themes to Scenes

Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 6:00 PM until 7:00 PMGMT Daylight Time UTC +01:00

Many of us would love to write a memoir, but painting a picture in words can be trickier than we expect! In this lively, interactive and practical taster lecture, Dr Claire Griffiths will guide you through a visual approach to creating your life story. Using tricks like mind-mapping and sense-led exploration, she’ll help you move from themes to scenes, from ‘telling it straight’ to recreating significant moments on the page. We’ll also read snippets from contemporary memoirists, to learn how they create themselves as characters, leaving a lasting impression on readers.

You’ll also get an inside look at postgraduate study at Northeastern University London, including an overview of the MA Contemporary Creative Writing programme and a live Q&A with our expert panel.
